Proclaimed before Red Wing City Council May 22, 2006:
Your honor, Mayor Dummer, Distinguished Council Members, and City Staff.

On behalf of the “Friends of American Ski Jumping,” former ski jumpers from many current and former ski clubs in cities across the USA, we hereby proclaim Red Wing, Minnesota as the Birthplace of Ski Jumping in the United States. Also, we hereby do proclaim Red Wing, Minnesota as the national home of the Hall of Fame of American Ski Jumping.

Our mission is to preserve and enhance the heritage and history of the wonderful sport of ski jumping in the United States. The St. James Hotel will be the downtown location of the Hall of Fame, but most of the history, memorabilia, and artifacts will be displayed on our web page as a virtual hall and mini museum.

Red Wing is truly unequalled and magnificently rich in the history of ski jumping. I would like to refer you to the recently published book, "Sky Crashers," containing the history of the Aurora Ski Club. The book was researched and written by Fred Johnson, formerly of Red Wing and now residing in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. Fred is the son of the late Fritz Johnson; long time Public Works Director for the City of Red Wing.
